Hello I’m Beth, owner and dyer behind Beehive Yarns. I came to yarn dyeing as a natural progression; having been a knitter and crocheter for many years I wanted to get behind the scenes on the glorious colours and fibres available. As a huge fan (*ahem* consumer) of beautiful hand-dyed yarn for the longest time I was also itching to have a go myself. My lovely husband bought me a kit and BOOM, not long after that the seeds for Beehive Yarns were sown.
I find that life provides a constant source of inspiration, often in the most unexpected places. My colourways have come to me through travel, music, photography and even the odd kids’ film courtesy of my young son/budding assistant. Marigold, my own personal favourite, was wholly inspired by a recent re-reading of the wonderful novel A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. I also popped it into my ‘Indian Vibes’ mini skein set. Sometimes you don’t need to visit a place to be able to reach out and touch the colours that it conjures up.
For me the name Beehive Yarns was an obvious choice; it just popped into my head all of it’s own accord. I’m a life-long 60’s enthusiast and lover of all things mid-century. I have taken as my yarn base names some of the most glamourous wearers of the famous retro hairstyle: these ladies have been an inspiration to me and I’d like to think they wouldn’t mind my playful reference to them (and their hair!) here. Here’s to Dusty, Barbra, the incomparable Audrey et al!
I’d love to see what you make with the yarn, if you’re an Instagram addict like me then please tag Beehive Yarns in your photos!
